What do you want, a fucking medal?

2009/07/01 08:26 So here's what happened.
I ran the Skotiabank Half Marathon in Vancouver BC on Sunday. It was my 1st one, and while it was fun, I kind of wanted to die on the lat kilometer. Apparently I wasn't the only one, as there were quite a few people being attended to be the med staff and ambulances in the last few miles.
I finished in 2:19:41, which was kind of "meh", but now I know what it's like and can work on a better pace. The whole time I felt like I could/should be going faster but I didn't want to burn out and have to take a break or walk part of it. Anyways, here's a pic of the finish line, and one of my sister and me with the bib numbers and medals.

and then a little pre-B-day dinner, followed by some strawberry shortcake;

ZOMGA!

2009/06/28 22:16 UMM, 13+ miles today.
WHO'S YOUR FUCKING CENTAUR, BABY?!?!?!?
Pics and more info to come...

Oh yea,

Hokay, super-uber-mega post

2009/03/15 16:26 Hokay,
So after a week of re-adjusting I finally got around to sorting and uploading pictures from my lil trip around Thailand. I sent out a couple of emails when I was gone, and while it seems kind of lazy to post them here, it was fresher in my head when I wrote it then.

So here’s a long post with some random pics. There’s a bunch of pics at http://s478.photobucket.com/albums/rr147/xpaulbubbax/ .

If you can’t be bothered with reading all of this, the TLDR is; Great trip. Best days of my life. Will do again.

The main schedule of the trip was from here. http://www.allgodsbeautifulchildren.org/projects.html
Here’s kind of a day by day synopsis.

After flying into BKK, we checked into a really nice hotel and got a little sleep. 1st thing in the morning we had the staff get us ringside tickets for the Muay Thai fights at lumpini stadium (most famous one in the world ), then took a cab out to a little market area to eat and poke around a bit. Then we walked to catch a boat down the river to some temples. The temples were crazy. It was too much to take in at once. I took lots of pictures. Then it was back to the hotel for a little relax.
We caught a tuk tuk (3 wheeled little taxi thing) to the stadium, which was f'ing crazy in friday Bangkok rush hour traffic. We almost crashed a few times, narrowly avoided hitting a dog, got in an arguement with the driver and had to walk the last little bit.
The fights were SOOOOO good. I got pictures with a couple of fighters, drank a few beers, got to hang out where the fighters were getting ready to fight, and it was all that I could have hoped for. I could go on forever about it.
When we left the stadium to find a cab and haggle the fare, I stepped onto the sidewalk and nearly got run over by an elephant! Seriously.

Saturday we hit a couple of malls and ran around getting stuff in order for the train ride that evening. The train was quite an experience. I think it was around 13 hours, and a lady who worked on the train was really bitchy and gave us a hard time for everything that we did. When we got to chang mai I tipped her just to see if she could smile, and it worked.

Sunday we got set up at a hotel, got breakfast and saw a flyer for fights that night. On the flyer it looked like it was right around the corner, so we walked to get tickets. After walking for an hour, and trying to get directions, we finally got to the stadium. When I saw it I think I peed a little. The sign on the building said..........."FAIRTEX MUAY THAI CHANG MAI"!!! Holy crap! (that's a really big deal to me). We poked around until we found somebody that could sell us tickets that early, then I looked through the window of the pro-shop making a mental shopping list for the night.
We caught a ride back, then walked aroung the sunday night market for a while, got some really good food, then it was back to the stadium.
We were the 1st people there, and got to pick out what seats we wanted at ringside. Really ringside . The first fight was these little guys. I think they were around 50 pounds. All of the fights were great. We saw knockouts by punches, 1 by superman punch, head kicks, leg kicks, and elbows. Most of the 8 fights ended by KO. I got some really cool stuff at the shop and a sweet gym bag to carry it all in. All in all it had to be one of the best days of my life.

Monday morning we went to find a heavy bag and gloves for the village kids, and beer, booze, smokes and coffee for us. (I just looked up and one of the kids is watching me through the window), then a 4 hour ride in the back of a truck to get to the village.
Yesterday we worked on the school, and when the kids got out of school at 2:30 we told them that we needed sawdust to fill the bag. They went f'ing nuts when they saw it. One of the little guys picked up the bag and started up the hill, so we followed him. He ended up leading us up a road, then off of the road up into the jungle. For real jungle. A ways off the road there was some boards that hed been cut from a tree and a bunch of sawdust. We filled it up as much as we could there, then the kids carried it further up to where I couldn't climg and finished it up. Before we started back down the kids pointed up in a tree. Almost right over us was a HUGE green tree snake coiled up in a branch. Through hand gestures we figured out that it was very poisonous. While Josie was trying to get a picture of it, the kids started to pretend to throw a stick at it (it would have landed just a couple feet away, or land on Josie). As soon as we walked a few feet back down, they knocked the snake down and we all screamed and ran doen the hill . When we got the bag up the kids went NUTS on it and each other for quite a while. It was just too cool. Josie got a bunch of pictures of the whole experience. That night after dinner a bunch of the men and the boys were watching the monday night bareknuckle fights in the cafeteria. The whole day (once again) was just too amazing.
The kids have been following me everywhere I go. Everybody has been soooo nice. The village is just amazing. I can see how some people who come here want to stay much longer and keep coming back. I could see myself here for a long time.
Oh yea, the toilets are a hole in the ground and a bucket of water, and the shower is also a bucket of water. It's kinda crazy.

Hokay, super-uber-mega post --- Part Deux!!@!

2009/03/15 15:37 Sooo, apparently there is only so much you can cram into one post.

Everything is still going great. I'm on an island in the south end of Thailand called ko lanta. It's pretty sweet. We're staying in a little bungalow right on the beach. Today is going to be monkey day, and I'm a little bit exited. There's a national park on the south end of the island that's supposed to be crawling with monkeys.

The last days in the village were amazing. Thursday had to be in the top 5 days of my life. I got to teach the tribe's chief a little thaiboxing (he thought that I was getting ready to fight him for real), we ate snake soup and spicy raw pork for lunch (really tasty), and had some good quality time in a hammok with cold beers. Then I got drunk on rice whiskey with the men (the workers and teachers). We played guitar, smoked, drank, told stories with hand gestures, looked at porn, all the good stuff. All in all it was amazing.

Friday was the truck ride back to Chang Mai, then massages, drinks, and good food.

Saturday was a travel day, followed by more hammock time and mai tais.

That's it for now. There are more pics and descriptions in the links above. And yeah, I can't wait to go back.

Howdy Ya'll

2009/01/28 13:06 I’m waiting for a meeting, so I figured I’m about due for an update.
All’s well down here. It’s been a little chilly lately; around 65F today.
The pup is doing great. Very cute, very sweet and kinda spoiled, but great. I’ve had some injuries over the last 6 months that have kept me out of the gym, so having a shadow has really helped keep me sane.
I’ve still been doing the str8 razor resto/refurb thing. I’m getting pretty good at it, and have been getting requests for taking on projects for money. I’ve been looking into starting to do fully custom razors and knives, but I’m limited to just how much I can do out of an apartment. Would it be odd to keep a kiln and a grinder in my kitchen?
Gonna be doing some traveling soon. I’m looking forward to it. One bigger trip, then vegas for a friend’s b-day, then vegas again for APP. I can’t wait to see ya’ll at conference. It’s going to be a fun year.
That’s it in a 5 min. nutshell. I’ll post some pictures of puppies and sharp objects when I’m not at work.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

2008/08/29 09:16 I huge monsoon storm hit the valley last night. Hurricane force winds up to 100 MPH. Thankfully every one from HTC is ok, and thankfully the shops and office are too.
Here are some pictures from ~6am this morning. I snuck past the police lines to check on the office, and everything is ok. After mopping up a little water from the front of the shop, all I could do was get some pics and head home.
I'm heading back now to get an ETA on safe entry, and try to get the computers out in case there's more monsoons coming.
A view of the front of the Tempe shop;

The office

From below the office

This is where the roof went (back parking lot). Note the downed power lines.

Another view of the lot.

It's gonna be loud in the office for a few weeks while this all gets fixed.
