New Tattoo design
I've given up! Every time I get a new tattoo I tell myself and (more importantly) my parents that I'm going to cool it with tattoos for a while. Yet, sure enough a few weeks later I'm already thinking of my next tattoo. It's like after I got my first tattoo I started thinking of my skin/body in a different way. It's no longer something that I'm in/born with. Rather it's something that I can adorn to show the world who I am inside and what's important to me. With that said...last time I went home I came up with a new idea. I found the phrase/saying "study diligently for knowledge is power" on one of my papers from 10th grade. I instantly fell in love with it and wanted to use it in a tattoo. I know it's a bit bumper-stickerish but I figure considering that I'm going to be a teacher and over the past few years I've come to want to learn/study for learning's sake (as opposed to for the grade) it is appropriate. You'll notice inside the design I wrote "non satis scire" as well. That means "to know is not enough." (No I didn't come up with it. It's actually Hampshire's moto, but I like it nontheless.) Which is something I completely agree with. I'm trying to live by both sayings. Anyway, here's where you come in. I've come up with two designs and I can't decide between the two. so I want to know what you think. Ultimately I'm going to have to make the choice but it's alway nice to have some input. The tattoo will be on the back of my calf thanks

Have you ever....?
Finished an exam, walked away from it feeling pretty good and then had the sinking feeling that there were more details that you could have and should have put in your essay? Not just that there were more details, but you knew exactly what those details were and for some reason didn't include them? I took my first American History mid-term last Thursday, and it seems like everyday I remember something I could have and should have written. It's haunting me. I studied my ass off for it, and I'm gonna be pissed if I don't get an A. Yes, I have turned into one of those crazed A driven students. Who would have thunk it? It would be one thing if I got a B or something fully knowing that I didn't know the material that well. I really feel like I know the material like the back of my hand and if you asked me a question I could give you a mini-lecture, but for some reason I freeze up during tests. My mind goes completely blank. It sucks. What's worse is that I think the TA is going to be grading it. Normally it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but I spent a good hour or so in my prof's office just talking about history and other stuff, so he knows I know this stuff...When I turned my test in, I wasn't wearing my glasses, so I put it in his pile no knowing, because I couldn't see, that there were other piles. I over heard him tell another student that it was alphabetical, so I went to put it in the correct pile. He mumbled something that sounded like he wanted me to leave it in his pile, but then when I asked him he said no. So I don't know.....This is just my craziness coming out. I can't stop thinking about the exam, it's driving me insane. So kudos to you if you've read through my entire rant! And if you could just take another few seconds to offer some reassuring words, or even a sarcastic comment that would be good...then maybe, just maybe, I won't implode.

New Tattoo...Part 3
I finally got my third tattoo on Jan 16th. For a while I didn't think I was going to be able to afford it. Luckily I was able to scrape the cash together. I love it. Artistically speaking, it's my favorite so far!!! This'll be my last tattoo for at least a year. Assuming nothing life changing/impacting happens in the next year or so, that is. Pictures are below and the story behind the tattoo is told in the previous entry. As always, comments are welcome.

New tattoo idea
Ok, so the rumors are true. Tattoos really are addictive. Ever since I drove cross country with my best friend, Kate, I've wanted a tattoo to symbolize/ as a monument for the adventure. At first I thought that maybe I'd get a map of the US w/ our route drawn out. Then when I actually drew out the route on a map I realized I really didn't want a map of the US on my body. So, the search for a proper trip tat. got tabled. I talked to Kate the other day and she said that she's getting the philly love statue tattooed on her hip when she comes home from Alaska over winter break. That got me thinking about getting tattooed again. I knew I'd be jealous if she got one and I didn't. So I continued my quest for a proper trip tat. I decided that the inspiration for my tat should come from one of the 1200 photos I took. I opened up my photo album to the spot where I have pictures from a crazy sculpture garden we went to. I found the right one almost immediately. The picture of the sculpture is given below. It was my favorite sculpture of the garden. I continued looking at my pictures and saw a picture of the placard in front of the sculpture it read "Pain and Joy can co-exist, but neither lasts forever. The butterflies fly away and the thorns are pulled." I really like the symbolism and sentiment of the sculpture. I think I'm going to get it done in early January. It's kinda crazy to think that this will be my third tattoo over the course of 9 months. but then again all of my tattoos have been in reaction/symbolize some big event that's happened in my life thus far. Two out of the three events have happened in the last 9 months. Now that's what's really crazy. note: I would get the tattoo drawn from the perspective the second picture's taken in. The first one's there just to give you a better sense of the color of the butterfly.
