Stuff that makes my advisor cringe
Piercing

Piercings and cartilage deformation from hypertrophic scarring: My 10 gauge/14 gauge/18 gauge holes, plus the scar tissue from my bad cartilage piercing.
Tattoo

My serotonin tattoo: The geekiest tat on the planet, according to me.
2005/04/04 20:35 I'm not sure how I feel about the new Tori Amos album. I liked her first two ones and ever since then, it's been a steady decline for me. Boys for Pele was too chaotic and weird for my taste. I never listened to Choirgirl Hotel or Scarlet's Walk, and now there's the Beekeeper, which is mostly easy listening with a few good hooks.

She really has made an album of 19 variations of the same song. The radio-played track makes her sound like some 22 year old pop singer and not the growling musician I fell in love with when I was a teen. The albums used to have tempo and mood changes, from the creepy to the erudite, but this is almost 100% ballad. Okay, she's matured and had a baby, meaning there are those obligitory songs about her kid. Much of the stuff is either bland (Butterflies) or cringe inducing (Hoochie Woman). The only ones where she's doing the piano tricks we came to love in pieces such as "God" or "Silent all these years" are in Barons of Suburbia and Marys of the Sea, and even then, she can't keep the pace.

Meh, it was 10 bucks on iTunes. I could have done worse, I guess, and some are beginning to grow on me, but still...

2005/04/02 00:14 Went and saw Sin City tonight. Extraordinarily violent, but still damn good. I will have nightmares all night, though. :(

2005/03/30 19:04 Busy Busy Busy. Maddie's out of the hospital and actually back in school now. I'm in the middle of a grant, which eats my life for lunch, and I'm indulging my new obsession, OkCupid, which unfortunately is taking away from the time I might be spending reviewing things.

Other than that, not much to report. Still having weird problems with numbness in my fingertips.

2005/03/24 16:34 My little sister is in the hospital. She came back from a week-long trip to Dublin and immediately returned to school in NYC. While there, she began feeling short of breath and light-headed. Figuring she had caught a cold or something, she went to the infirmary. They called an ambulance for her as she apologized for making them worry and thought they were overreacting.

At the moment, she's in the ICU on blood thinners because she has two blood clots in her lungs, aka pulmonary embolism. It's economy class syndrome + birth control pills (makes your blood clot more). She'll be fine, but this is scary as all crap. I'm hopefully going to see her this weekend.

Reviewing makes me want to kill my own brain at times...

**FORUM:L7PL7XFTOX7BZY7C2**
I actually knit and crochet, but I crochet more often. Betcha didn't expect THAT!

I think for a living. No, really, I study the brain for thirty or forty hours a week. If you're curious about endorphins, want to debate whether ADHD is a real disease, or feel like ranting/raving about medications, I'm your gal.

My single tat is related to my field and amuses my fellow brain people and my doctors. Most people don't understand it, but that doesn't bother me, since I got inked for myself. I've gotten a few piercings, my most recent a lovely surface pierce on my upper left arm...pics to come when it gets a bit less red.

I research Synesthesia, a phenomenon in which sensory stimuli in one sensory domain (such as sight) triggers an involuntary, irrepressible, and stable evocation in another sensory domain (such as hearing). Those three words are key: synesthesia happens without the person, called a synesthete, thinking about it or triggering it consciously. They can't stop it (but it doesn't bother them usually...they think it is great!) and they can't really initiate it. Stable means the experiences are the same over time and happen without any sort of fun drugs. If you think you have synesthesia...email me and I'll be happy to answer any questions.

At the moment, I'm playing World of Warcraft. Goodbye, life!

Obligatory mod list:
2/10/14 left lobe
2/6/14 right lobe
12?g navel
14g vertical sternum done with a surface bar
Tattoo, lower left abdomen, of the molecule serotonin.
Tattoo, midline, two Kanji characters

Intended mod list
Lettering tattoo, either a Latin phrase or a name (can't tell you those either)
Navel project (maybe)
double vertical nipple rings, maybe
More arm surface depending on how this heals
Suicide suspension

Retired mod list
14g surface arm bar, mostly because it sorta fell out and I didn't feel like finding it to put it back in.
Retired helix cartilage piercing each ear. Does the hypertrophic scarring lump on each one count as a mod?
