Night sky, fuel shy.

Hello! My name is Katie. The body mods I have are all piercings. I've been pierced 11 times, but currently only have 8 piercings. My first piercings were my ears. The first hole in my right ear was pierced lower than the left side. It bothers me. I've had it repierced twice in an attempt to fix it (once with a gun and last year with a needle), but I had kept the original hole too long and it hadn't closed up before getting it repierced. My first "real" piercing was my septum. I got it done at age 16, I've had it for 3 years now. It's my favorite piercing of the ones I have. For my most recent addition I got both nostrils pierced.

My experiences:
Bloody nostril (photo)
Pretty face (photo)
Two nostrils, two piercings.
"Are you pierced?"

Bloody new nostrils
20g nostrils

I'm the keeper of the bees, as you know.
2006/11/11 23:38 Finally got the nostril screws Ryan bought for me bent. I can't believe I hadn't been to Planet 3 at all until now this semester. (Yes I'm lice free, and for the record, I recommend using Pronto, it was the only stuff that actually worked, unfortunately I used a bunch of other useless crap first. You've got to comb well and reshampoo after the 7 days like they tell you. I'm going to get my hair cut when I get home, I'm looking forward to it. Anyway I'll get back to piercings now) It was 5 (on a Saturday) when I went so it was kinda busy, I ended up having to wait an hour to get my septum stretched. I'm at 10g now! Right now I'm planning on going to 6g? I had them give me a plug, it's a no flare plug so it's pretty long. And Byron, Joel wasn't there, had trouble getting the 2nd o-ring on. It kinda stings still, but I don't mind. I really need to get some different jewelry for it though. I don't want to be wearing this any longer than I have to. But of course I've got to let it settle before swapping it out. I approximate it's about a 1/2" long, the plug I was wearing before was only 1/4" and it could have been shorter. Depending on how long I have to wait to stretch again I might even just go to 8g while I'm at home... I don't know. Nevermind, it probably wouldn't be enough time. I just don't really want to have to buy more jewelry for a transitional guage. I didn't get a shorter barbell for my tongue, oh well. I was also kinda wanting one ring for my nostrils so I could have the Lenny Kravitz look when one side is irritated. Which reminds me, I went to a Cuong Nhu (martial arts) training camp last weekend and I guess I bumped my nose some how because my right nostril got all swollen. I switched back to my first screws because they are a little longer and it's felt fine since, but it bleed when I did the change so I'm not going to put in my newly bent screws. Anyway I had initially only swapped the right side because the little bit of extra length is a little irritating, but I looked really dumb with mismatched screws so I switched the left side too. If I had a ring it would look more on purpose... but then again, a ring probably wouldn't be the best thing to be wearing in an irritated hole, seeing as it could get knocked around a lot easier. Ok, nevermind then, I just saved my self some money, yay. BAF got in the new Kaos skin tunnels in black in addition to clear so I bought a pair of each in 8g for my lobes. I love them. They were perfect for the training camp, because I could leave them in instead of having empty lobes all day. I was worried my holes would shrink if I left them out that long... I guess it wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but whatev. I put in the clear ones first and they went in a lot easier than I was expecting. Then I decided I wanted to change to the black after maybe an hour with the clear ones in. It was decidedly harder to get the black ones in. I think it was because before I have put the clear ones in I had been wearing captives, which even though they were titanium, were a lot heavier than the little silicone tunnels. So I put in my heavy evos and after about 5 minutes with those in the black skins went in with out too much trouble. I really like the skins. They make my holes look bigger. And they were a great price (especially compared to Tribe... $20 for a pair?! Pssssh!) I just wish they came in more colors. Though, being they are harder to change at the guage I'm at and I don't change my jewelry too often anyway, I doubt I'd really coordinate with my outfits or anything like that. In tattoo non-news, I realized another reason I have to get a tattoo of CWP. I'm 7 generations away from him. 7 generations being a sort of magic number when people are thinking about the environmental future. I'm his 7th generation, so it would remind me to think of who will my 7th generation be? Also... I thought there was something else... I can't think of it. Maybe I was going to mention, because I didn't before, I'm also thinking about getting an anchor when I get married, then I had the idea to add a link of chain for every year, but I can't really see that looking good. I really love that Lionel guy from France, maybe he could do the anchor for me, but if I were to do the chain thing, I couldn't go back to France every year. The placement I was thinking of for that was the back of my left arm, just above the elbow. Someone at my school had an anchor in the same spot. It looked pretty hot. In my last entry I didn't say I was thinking of having the portraits be a back piece. I like rib tattoos, but I want the two sides to be together. Today Shannon got even cooler, I didn't know he was into cars.

2006/09/30 15:33 So... I got some new jewelry, as a birthday gift from my boyfriend. I guess I should put up pictures, seeing as my account is about to expire. The main reason I was posting though, was to mention my future plans. Over the summer I got lice. It has been a pain getting rid of them. I have resolved not to do anything for myself (for example, get any new piercings, or stretch anything, etc.) until I get rid of them for good. In the mean time, I'll just talk about all the things I wish I could do. I've confrimed that, in addition to Charles Wilson Peale, I am indeed related to the Wright borthers. I told myself if it was true I would like to get a tattoo of said famous relatives. Not going to get it any time soon, but I'll start planning... gathering pictures, ideas, and researching (history and tatoo artists). I feel like I know nothing about tattoos... I definitely want to feel the opposite before I get inked. I need to go get the nose screws my boyfriend bought me bent into screws. Also if anyone knows if there are any 12g barbell shafts out there shorter than 1/4" let me know. I guess I could see about getting them custom made somewhere... I haven't really looked into it. Plus I don't feel like spending much money right now. I've decided I'm going to stretch my septum. I've worn a retainer in it all summer... and with the double nostrils I don't really feel like I need to wear a ring in it anymore. Plus I like the idea of bigger septums. I'm not sure how far I want to go, but I'm thinking bigger than 8g, which is the biggest gauge I've got so far. I'd like to get my navel repierced sometime soon too... I've wanted it redone since I took it out, but my recent re-wanting is thanks to my sister getting hers done. I don't see it much, but when I do, I can only think how cute it is (just like her). I also need to get a new barbell for my tongue at a better length. Other than that... I can only keep wishing my lobes had been pierced evenly... wish for someway to fix them. My ideas for fixing them require going bigger, and even then I'm not sur eI'd like the outcome. The reason I don't want to go bigger is the money I've spent on jewelry I like at 8g. And the fear of having huge saggy holes that I'll have when I'm old. Though, I kind of doubt that will happen... I think I'd just keep wearing jewelry and deal with it. This is pointless...

Is this working today?
2006/09/12 16:19 I finally changed the barbell in my tongue, first time I've changed it at all since getting it downsized, and the first time doing it myself. I probably would have done it sooner, but the ball was on pretty tight and I had to find a pair of rubber gloves first (I have plenty around, left over from printmaking... I just had to get my lazy butt up and find them). With gloves, the ball that had previously been impossible to unscrew, unscrewed easily. For awhile the length had been bothering me. I had a teflon barbell I had bought before getting my tongue pierced I hadn't used yet. I thought it'd be a good way to determine what length barbell I should buy as a replacement to my then current barbell. I didn't want to make it too short though, so it was still a little long. I was planning on waiting until I went back to school, where my regular piercer is, to buy a new barbell... but then I got an email from Steel Skin saying they were going out of business. I've seen pictures of people here with the invisi-balls, they really are invisable, and so I wanted to get my hands on some invisi-ball ends for myself while I could. I didn't know whether I should buy the 12g, or 1.2 threaded ends. I had thrown away the paper that said what brand my old barbell was, and I didn't know which would fit. Then I realized I was pretty stupid, and I should just buy a whole new barbell; the ends would definitely fit, and I'd have a shorter barbell like I needed. Why would the ends need to fit a barbell that was too long anyway? I had cut the teflon barbell to 5/8ths" ...9/16ths" probably would have been the safest bet, but I decided to go with half an inch. I got invisi-balls on both ends, with a 30% farwell discount, it came to just under $40. As soon as it arrived I put it in. I had been afraid the teflon threads wouldn't hold up very well, and wanted to get it out of my mouth asap, before I swallowed something. That turned out to be a mistake... the teflon barbell hadn't given me any problems, where as the invisi-ball barbell came unthreaded 3 times in my mouth. Very annoying. It was also a little uncomfortable, slightly too short. I feel I should mention though, very invisi-ball. After the 3rd time the end fell off I became frustrated, and said, "Arg! This isn't worth $40!" As soon as I got home I pulled out the ball from my old barbell (it had a longer thread post than the invisi-ball end, therefore I figured it'd be more secure... that is if it would fit). It fit. I left the bottom ball as the invisi-ball, since it never gave me any probelms... in fact I don't even know if both ends unscrew... though I would think so. So far the old ball is more comfortable than the flat bottom of the invisi-ball, the barbell doesn't seem too short anymore. The length is definitely much better than the old barbell, I can stick my tongue out without hitting my teeth, and the ball is against my tongue like it's supposed to be... I should take some pictures to demostrate... but I can't find my camera! Arg. Oh wait! I found it... but the battery is dead... Ok. Pictures!! Nevermind... after wearing the shorter barbell for a day or so my tongue was getting sore, so I switched back to my old barbell, even though it's long it's much more comfortable. Look slike I'll have to try again. I'm back in Savannah now though, so I can stop by Planet 3 and have my piercer tell my which length would be best. I probably won't go for a while though since I don't have much money, and I'll probably need to buy a bunch of stuff for school. I'll update when something happens.

First mistake
2006/05/20 23:43 So... I ended up putting in my new screws the day I bought them. Hurt like heck. I really don't think I'm healed yet, I don't think it's supposed to hurt so much to change the screws, though I would think having a 90 degree bend go through your nose holes isn't the most pleasant thing anyway. The jewelry isn't as discrete as I had hoped, but it's a lot better than my other jewelry. Apon looking at it again it's more of a copper color than a peach or fuschia. The good news is the bump that was on my left nostril that I mentioned in my last entry has gone away since changing my jewelry. This morning while I was sleeping I moved my arm from above my head to not above my head and as my hand went by my face my thumb ring caught on my right nostril screw and pulled it half way out. Ouch! I pushed it back in a kept sleeping. Man did it hurt. It even bled some and got swollen. It seems to be back to normal now though. I didn't end up buying any more screws online, but I did buy a new retainer for my septum, then the next day I realized I didn't need it. I've got a 12g teflon barbell I could cut and use as a retainer, and I've also got 2 12g glass double flare plugs I bought for my lobes that I can actually use in my septum, I put one in yesterday, and it went in no problem... well it took a little coersion, but there was no pain. Lets hope getting it out is as easy. But who knows when that will be... I could take it out now... but I figure I might as well just leave it in. I'll be home in less than 2 weeks and shortly after that I'm going back to work. Whatever happens i'm sure I'll mention it. Pictures of the new screws soon.
