time for a battery
2010/02/06 14:37 well I went to my parents house last night, put the new starter on, connected all the wires, and the battery was dead. Hooked it up to the charger for the night and went over there this morning and two pushes of the starter and it went dead again. So time for a new battery. I am going to take advantage of this and get an original battery box and oil bag too. that way I can take the battery in and out without undoing all the oil lines and pulling the oil bag out. I might be going to check out the indie bike shop in Milton Monday to see if they have the parts I need.

its here!
2010/02/05 19:19 starter for my bike just got delivered, I am off to work in a dark garage as soon as I get out of the shop, I really hope I can make that bad bitch sing!

good work out=good day
2010/02/05 12:04 well I had a good work out today, and for lunch I have packed a salad with shredded carrot, mango on the side, and an apple for a snack. Going to do some groceries today and get more variety of fruit and veggies to make more interesting salads. No salad dressing. Meals like that and working out again I should be able to create a good caloric deficit that will hopefully result in a thinning of my waist line. I am also thinking of getting my racing bike back together and on a stationary stand so I can start getting some aerobic exercise in too. I know I have put on a lot of muscle over the last month and a bit because my reps on everything have increased 3 fold, and I can feel that they are bigger, you just can see it because they are all under a lair of padding.

The starter for my Harley should be here today, and I will be picking it up after work and hooking it up. keeping my fingers crossed that a new starter will get this beast to start.

Got a call today letting me know that I have been accepted into a medical study that will be giving me food poisoning. two 10 day stays in the hospital shitting my self and at the end of it all I will be getting $4,410! It will erase my personal debt and then some!

mmmm vegan pizza
2010/02/04 14:12 well had to do a trash run today, and on my way back to the shop I decided to stop in a get some pizza. a local joint here has two vegan pizzas that are awesome, and I just so happened to have a buy on get one half off coupon!

I was up late making t-shirts for Suzi's penguin plunge team. (I still cant believe that she is doing that). I am proud of her though, she has managed to raise $425! It will be fun watching her in that cold water this Saturday.

My new starter should be here Friday, so ether Friday night or Saturday morning I will be putting it on my bike and seeing if I can get it started. If I get it started then I will probably bundle up and go for a spin around the neighborhood. I cant wait to ride that bitch!

I might try to do some drawing today. I haven't really been in much of a mood to draw for a while now, not sure why, I hope it passes soon.

and its the starter
2010/02/02 20:30 Well I had today off, went to my Dads and worked on my Harley. Due to the problems I was having with it I decided to take the starter off and take it to a couple shops and and get a professionals opinion. I got a couple different opinions, but was told how to find out for sure. I took it home and finally reached it apart. I found the source of my problems! Nothing but rust, burnt wires, and brush dust all over the place, one of the brushes was broken in half. Thankfully I found a brand new 1.4KW All Balls starter for it. It is a high torque high speed starter. It should be here Monday, and I have Tuesday off so I am hoping that it will finally start! The new starter should work long enough without over heating to allow the cylinder walls to warm up and allow the bike to start. This is why I wish I had a kick start on it, so I could kick it over a few times with the ignition off to warm it up.

back to the shop tomorrow.

Lazy day yesterday
2010/02/01 13:05 Had the day off yesterday, and what a lazy day it was. Spent it with the wife rather than working on my bike. slept in, watched TV, watched Dexter, didn't get out of my pajamas all day! It was nice to have a lazy day like that.

Since I am taking tomorrow off I figured I will work on my bike then, so I could be a little more productive around the apartment this morning. I did some tidying up, and some dishes. I will probably finish the dishes tomorrow morning before I got over to my Dads and work on the bike some more. Since I have tomorrow off from the shop it will be nice to not have to be constantly look at the time to make sure I am not late to work.

I really have my hopes up that I will be able to get the old iron horse to start tomorrow. Its going to be kind of warm (in the 30's I think) I'm going to drain the oil and put in lighter oil so the starter has an easier time turning it over. The carb has been cleaned and there is fresh fuel in it, the valves have been adjusted, and as far as I can tell the timing is right.

I am hoping that the thinner oil will have a two fold affect of making easier to start in the cold, and flushing out any junk that might be in there from old oil. once it warms up I will swap the 10w-30 I'm putting in it out for the Harley standard 20-50

Not to much to report
2010/01/30 14:44 I helped Devin pick up a couch and move it into his apartment, It was a tight fit, but we got it up there.

had left over Chinese food for breakfast, so I am going to be hungry again before the day is done...not looking forward to that.

Its been too cold to work on my bike, but hopefully monday/tuesday warm up enough to do some more work. I want to drain all the oil out of it and replace it with thinner oil since it is cold out. It should make it easier for the starter to turn the engine over and hopefully make it easier to start! (and once it does start the thinner oil will help clean out the gunk that I am sure has built up in it over the last 37 years

My ears have been really pissy with me, just lymphing a lot, I think its because of how cold it is outside.

I think my truck may need a new starter soon. when it is warmed up it has trouble starting, that's not so much a problem right now since its cold out, but when it will be constantly warm I think it will start to become more of an issue. Oh well, we will see. there are lots of starters sitting in scrap yards all over the state. I am hoping to do some actual off roading this summer, I kind of want to see what this truck is capable of.

I cant wait for summer. as much as I said I was going to wait till next winter to start chopping my Harley, I might start doing some stuff to it this summer. The previous owner was a red neck and this bike shows it. Seems like he thought the more bull shit and chrome he had on the bike the better it would be. I like my bikes simple, clean, and chrome kept to a minimum.

fucking cold!
2010/01/29 13:45 well I got the carb put back together and clean, as far as I can tell the timing is correct, drained the old gas (it was a dark amber color, definitely old) when we get a warmer day I will be draining the oil and putting fresher/thinner stuff in it and hopefully it starts! but the next couple days look like cold and colder, so who knows when it will be time to test it.

Odd day so far
2010/01/28 12:17 Well I took today off of working on my bike, but for some reason I still woke up at 7am! I wish I knew why my sleeping pattern has changed so drastically so suddenly. I am hoping to get back to working out tomorrow (I put that aside to work on my bike)

I finally got the last check I was waiting for from my ex boss, and I took it to his bank to cash it (so I wouldn't get hit with another bounced check fee) and it took over an hr of shorting shit out at the bank before they cashed the check for me! I do not understand how this guy is able to stay in business.

been watching a lot of south park lately, I had forgotten how much I liked that show.

still no start
2010/01/27 13:08 I adjusted the tappets on my bike today, they where decent, just needed some fine tuning. hooked the battery up and still no start, turns over and over and then the battery dies. (I wish I could just turn the damn thing off, it so bright it has to be drawing a lot of power from the battery)

I know I am getting spark (and i believe it is coming at the right time)and I know I am getting compression, so I figure that the issue has to be in the fuel delivery. When I twist the throttle I can see a squirt of gas coming out, but I figured that cleaning the carb couldn't hurt. I got it apart, and mostly it looks alright, a section under a vacuum diafram was shit, but nothing damaged. I ran out of time before I could get into the jets, but a good cleaning and some fresh gas cant hurt.

Going to double check that the timing is set right, but if it isn't it means its off 180 degrees (I am hoping that the previous owner wasn't that dumb)
