Greetings from Julian Nyx, entheotic tribe [of one and then the bit left over]. Currently, I'm retaining multiple sigils and more dimensional symbols; two black sigils over the sternum, one green and black sigil on my left hip, a Discordian mandala on my left shoulder, a spiral of serpents on my right shoulder, a maple leaf on the back of my neck, a poppy on my right hip, a green and black Mobius strip on my left ring finger - lobes stretched to 3/4", left helix and deep helix at 14g, left nostril at 14g, lip at 14g, septum at 14g. Are my modifications the most important thing? In and of themselves, no - they're outward manifestations of the most important thing. This is the mindfuck folding into physical reality...an expression of the genius loci filtering through the psyche in insane and furious detail.
Living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Nope, not dead, even though I've overdosed on drama for a little while - nerves seem to be taut all over the place, work, home, school, play.

I'm probably not going to return here on a regular basis, but there are still a couple more things I'd like to do to myself (have done to myself) - tragus piercing, FINALLY begin my tattoo ("the" tattoo - the one that's been in a mental holding pattern for five years), maybe dermal punch my helix...

What I'd really like to do is earpointing - but I don't want (can't afford to) lose my job, and I also don't have an extra couple hundred to slap down on it.

I think that's the first time I've ever admitted to myself that I wanted my ears pointed. Huh.

I've been thinking a bit about the big drahmah that came up recently - TOSing and all - and I wrote about it extensively elsewhere, but I'll sum it up here.

To be told that, because you don't have enough modifications, you cannot then comment about the aesthetically pleasing nature [or not] of someone else's... is ridiculous. It is foolish. Perhaps I'll get suspended for this - I have no idea how many mods I should have, or where, in order to metacomment on something going on elsewhere - but every time I think about it, it's more sand to the soul.

If you want people with fewer mods to shut up, then may I suggest this - make a damn chart, so we know where we fit in the hierarchy of modification. I'm tired of walking into studios and feeling like I can't pass some invisible gate because I don't look 'modded' enough, and then getting nasty comments from people who don't have any mods at all.

Decide what this community is for - everyone who ever had a needle stuck in, or just for the full splitters? Because there's apparently no room for the middle.

2008/01/03 19:48 Funny story.

I usually wear PTFE in my labret piercing, because it's flexible and soft and doesn't bug me like metal does. So, when my parrot bit the ball off*, shortening the stud to the point where it couldn't be worn, I figured I'd be able to find it... somewhere in Edmonton... right?

I phoned around - one place had Bioplast but only in 16g [and I don't like it as much as PTFE for this purpose in any case].

The last place I phoned... that was the funny part. I asked about Bioplast or PTFE labret studs. For what, they asked. For a labret piercing, I said. Oh, they said. We don't sell that, because it's not biocompatible, not meant to be used for long periods of time.

Really? PTFE's not biocompatible? It's also been used in joint replacements [but replaced by a more, if I understand this correctly, porous polymer that bonds better with bones - but it wasn't rejected for long-term viability inside the human body]. I thanked them and hung up.

I guess I'll be ordering my non-compatible implants from BAF, then. And I'll just have to hope that the non-biocompatible stud doesn't melt my face, I guess.

*PTFE is toxic to birds when heated to the point of offgassing - my mouth is not that hot, so I wasn't too concerned. At least, after I got the ball out of her damn beak.

2007/10/19 15:24 I spent today trying to find a tattoo artist and failing. See, I want something small and simple - my ideal place, Shambhala, was closed, so I hit up a different shop down the street. I must be having a religious experience - I felt like I was speaking in tongues, like I just could not get across the concept. "A curled-up cat - like a netsuke, you know?" *puzzled look* "Oh, dear." So I gave up on that - maybe Shambhala will be open tomorrow and someone will have a half free, or something. Or hey, I'm going to WEM tonight; I could check out DragonFX while I'm there.
