2009/10/24 15:11 I'm not good with people, I'm not good at communication, so I'm kinda sorry for not keeping this thing updated the way I used to back when I was a real regular. Once upon a time I knew so many people on here, I had been to BMEFest, and I was the most prolific reviewer of articals submitted (and somehow STILL never managed to get a staff t-shirt...which kinda hurt)
I kind of lost track of this place though, originally due to work never giving me any time to do anything but work and sleep, and then because I had gotten out of the habbit of posting, it became hard to start again.
So, what has happened to me in the last year and a half since I last posted? Well, an awful lot really.
Probably the most obvious change is that due to the recession I got made redundant from my old work. The company shedded a LOT of jobs, and I was one of them which I'll be honest, really hurt. Especially after all of te loyalty I showed them, what with sacrificing my holidays to make sure jobs went ahead. But then the AV industry has always been a heartless one.
I was unemployed for over 6 months, surviving on Jobseekers Allowance (well, mostly surviving on my savings, since JSA is absolutely useless for anything). Within a couple of week sof being laid off, we got a phonecall saying that the Landlords wanted their flat back because they were moving back from Australia, so we had to give it up. I also had over £600 to spend on my car to get it through it's MOT. So it was a really shitty time for me.
However as it stands now, I did manage t find a job, and I've been working up as a technician at the University of Stirling for the last few months. The new job is pretty good in that it's regular hours, with great holidays and a really good pension. The only downside is that I'm going to earn £6000 less this year, and I'm paying £200 a month in fuel to get to/from work. So I'm pretty skint. But it's still better than being on the dole.
Also, those who know me will be amazed that I went to the dentist last week for the first timein years, because I had a large chip in my tooth that my DIY filling jut wouldn't hold fo long. As it turns out I have over £100 of work to be done, but it's not as bad as I feared. And whatever new naesthetic they're using these days seems to actually work, so it's not as unpleasant as in the past where I would get treatment with anaesthetic that had no effect other than to make my lips numb.
Anyway, I'll leave it there for now, if anyone has any questions, catch me after class.
Just back from lunch with my parents, that was very nice. They got me (as well as some domestic things like towels, cups, etc.) a beautiful little old school pocket-watch. Very very funky.
Fanny got me 300 on Blu-Ray as well, which is great because I have been looking for that for ages. And my brother has said he will bring me up a gift when he comes up from Cornwall next weekend. yay, it's going to be good seeing him again.
The only downer is that Fanny has been ill all weekend, I think she has this vomiting bug that has been going around, yesterday she was ill all day and didn't eat anything, she only just managed to start eating again today, so didn't manage to make it out to lunch with me and my parents. Ahh well, she will be able to head over to Lanark when my bro comes up anyway, so we will be able to have the whole family together.
Now I just need to figure out what else I want to do before I go back to work tomorrrow.
Next, why am I back? It as weird, I had decided to renew my account because I missed thi splace, so I came back and somehow I already had an account that worked, without needing to pay. Strange, but that being said I will be paying anyway, because I don't really believe in taking advantage of strange things like this, what can I say, I have morals.
So, obviously it has been a year since my last post, so what has happened?
Well, personal life, I am still living with Fanny (my french girl), still in the same flat that I moved into almost 4 years ago. During the summer I actually visited her family in France, it was lovely. I may say a lot of bad things about french cooking, but damn do they know their chocolate and cakes. When I'm not with my gf I generally am on my PS3 these days, usually with a nice glass of malt. (I know, how strange)
Professionally, I am still in the same job. This last year has been more insanely busy than you can imagine. Doing crazy jobs like doing the big screens for the football (Scotland V Italy) in the big tent on Glasgow Green for 8000 Scotland fans, on only 3 days notice. (85 hour week, LOTS of overtime) Although it has been stressful, we have now hired 2 junior techs, so a lot of the pressure and stress has been lifted off of me, which is a very good thing.
And for the future, will I keep posting here more often than only once a year? Well yes, I certrainly hope so.
Ohh, and I have a beard now, not sure if I mentioned that in last years post.
2007/01/04 18:44 Ok, I'm getting really bad at updating this thing, downside of working almost constan overtime, gets me distracted.
So, what's been happening? Well, I've been working a lot, obviously, and as a result picking up nice painful back injuries, but that's just part of the job I suppose.
I'm still with my lovely French girl, although she was over in France from christmas eve until tonight, I'm going to pick her up from the airport soon. That's probably the longest we've been apart since she moved in with me.
And, in 2 days it's my birthday, so I get to be another year older, not that it makes much of a difference, but it's nice to have a day when everyone is nice to you
