Ok, I know I need to update.
I've finally hear it from enough places . . .
The short version, I suppose, goes like this: | |
1. We finished off a wonderful season in Colorado, packed our belongings; and began our meandering road-trip adventure up to Canada, again.
2. I should also mention that the real estate developer in Revelstoke screwed us over; as a result: we didn't get the property we'd dreamed of (although we did get our investment back). Brendon has handled this better than me: I'm still a little crushed.
3. But halfway through our road-trip, the engine in my beloven big green minivan, The Vanimal, died. We made the tough decision to leave her (she needed a whole new engine, not really viable in a 1995 Plymouth Voyager). R.I.P. the Vanimal at a wrecker's in a tiny town in the green hills of northern California.
I cried. It felt not like losing a car, but losing a beloved pet; a companion on so many adventures. I'm still cut up, to think of her...
4. But we managed to get a rental car, move up our flights; then spend a few weeks hiding from the world on the sunny beaches in Queensland. I ran every morning.
5. APSI examiner's pre-course was fist on the agenda for the Australian snow season, it was the first weekend of June at Fall's Creek. I ran every morning, but declined sitting through the boring meetings. There was a wee bit of snow already falling.
6. the next weekend Mt Buller officially opened (after it snowed all week long) with MORE runs open than all season 2006. Not a bad start . . . so of course we're stupidly busy at Ski School.
7. . . . and it just hasn't stopped. Since opening weekend, I've been working mon-stop; and I won't have a single day off until the 23rd of July. Still running every morning; then between 6 and 8 hours of coaching every day (hard riding: I've taught a total of ONE beginner lesson thus far), and then 6 days a week I vacuum & clean the 3-floor the Kids' Centre.
Lots of long, busy days. Plus I'm chafing a bit at some of the new ski school administrations' restrictions. I'm tired (body/mind/soul), but even when I had "the virus" that was going around, I kept going; and together with a great support network, I've made things happen and not given in. Me = tough. Grr.
So yeah. Things are good. B is coaching for Buller Riders full-time, has far awesome-er uniform than I do . . . and although 95% of the time we spend together is spent sleeping, it's good times. So I'll sign off with a helicopter-view of Mt. Buller, (proving again, there IS snow in Australia: and lots of it: this is shaping up to be an epic season, with almost all the mountain open already!)
