First of all, I'm addicted to science. My research focuses on viral molecular genetics and I have a twisted love for organic chemistry. When I have spare time I often spend it reading some paper or textbook or even drawing up a crazy synthesis for a random chemical.
I spend my weekdays in school and in the lab.
I spend my weekends making money by delivering fitness equipment.
I've been into physical fitness (specifically strength training) since the summer of 2007. Getting into shape drastically changed my life.
I'm a drummer, though I haven't had the time to play lately. My favorite bands are Tool, Mudvayne (mostly the first two albums), Slipknot, and for working out there's nothing better than Disturbed.
I got my first piercings back in the fall of 2006. Those were two 14G lobe piercings in my left ear. Over the next two months I got my right lobe pierced, a 14G conch, and a 16g tragus. I got rid of the conch and tragus in the spring. Now my lobes are 6G and 8G in each ear. I don't plan on getting any new piercings.
I started getting tattooed about two months ago and plan on getting many more.
2009/03/03 13:43 I've been pretty busy over the past few weeks. I've gotten a few more hours of work on my left arm and I'll post pics within the next week or so. It's really starting to come together. The professors I met during my interview at Emory absolutely loved my tattoos and were making all kinds of suggestions for new ones. It was pretty funny.
I had a good experience down in Atlanta and am pretty sure that Emory is where I'm going to end up. Apparently the application process was much more rigorous than in previous years thanks to the economy (more highly qualified applicants, about half the positions) but I got an email that sounded extremely positive about me getting a spot, so I should find out soon.
Two down, two to go...
2009/01/23 22:11 I got an interview for Cornell...just MIT and Penn left.
Wow...
2009/01/15 13:35 Yeah...I'm pretty sure being observant and having a working knowledge of organic chemistry is a good thing. My ear infection hasn't cleared up yet so I went back to the doctor and was prescribed Duricef...Now, being the curious person I am I looked it up online and was immediately glad I did when I saw the molecular structure...it's a beta-lactam antibiotic, meaning it's related to penicillin. I'm allergic to amoxicillin...which is a derivative of penicillin. I called the doctor back to ask about it and the pharmacy had already alerted them to their mistake...but man, that's kind of scary.
First Invite!
2009/01/14 10:16 I just got my first grad school interview invite! This one's from Emory. I should hear from MIT, Penn, and Cornell any day now.
