  • Finish up the tattoo project started on my left arm. I'm going for sleeves at least, and may continue it into a backpiece if I can come up with a good design.

Roadtrip '09
2010/01/07 00:24 I just got back from a major road trip on the West Coast. We drove from Seattle to San Francisco to Vegas and back. It was pretty epic, more than a little tiring, but definitely worth it. Photos:



  1. Welcome to The Rock! Alas, we neglected to buy tour tickets in time.
  2. Scenery at Point Lobos, about two hours south of SF.
  3. Windmills! Yeah, we're in California now.
  4. Day and night kind of blur together in Las Vegas. This is taken from our hotel room at Circus-Circus on New Year's Eve.
  5. Looking down the face of the Hoover Dam. I was expecting the tour guides to be sick of dam jokes but they were the ones telling most of them.
  6. Death Valley, which is pretty much exactly as desolate as it sounds.

2009/05/24 17:20 BBQ'd. Meat was had (and worn). We played with a bird. I forgot my sleeping bag, but it's cool. I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

Korean short rib marinade recipe, by popular request:

  • (up to) 6 lbs. flanken-cut short ribs
  • 12 oz. soy sauce
  • 6 oz. sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • a large bunch of scallions, finely chopped
  • a healthy shot of hot sauce

2009/05/10 19:20 So, I found out something kind of neat when I went home this weekend. My birth mother recently contacted the adoption agency that placed me with my parents, and sent over some family medical history along with a request to get more information about me. My folks will have to sign some kind of legal thing to allow that, and wait to see if she responds back afterwards.

That part seems a little silly to me, honestly. Why can't they just give me her contact information and let me decide where to go from there? I wasn't a party to the original agreement, so it's not like I consider myself bound by it. But I guess the lawyers have to get their cut in somewhere.

Oh, and apparently I have some half-brothers. Does that make me a half-only child?

Hooray, it's the future again! And I'm still here. I ought to treat this more as a blog or something, with semi-regular updates. Part of why I haven't posted recently is I haven't gotten any more tattoo work done. I sent my artist a few emails but he hasn't responded to them yet. I hope he's not dead or something.

I think another part of it is that after joining my Warcraft guild, they began to serve as my primary online social circle. But that's no excuse for neglecting you fine folks. So I'll try to post something on a less sporadic basis here from now on.

In other news, I've gotten hooked on lonelygirl15. What the heck is wrong with me? For some reason I tend to get attached to series that frequently make me want to punch the protagonists.

2008/07/06 01:27 I'm sitting in my old bedroom at my parents' house, home for the 4th of July weekend. Earlier today we bought and set up a wireless router, so now anywhere in the house (and even in the little gazebo just outside) you can get internet access. Which is to say, from anywhere inside or near the house I can have at my fingertips access to trillions of bytes of literature, art, music, scientific knowledge, debate and commentary, news... pretty much anything that has ever interested any human that doesn't require physical participation. A scientist or scholar from scarcely a hundred years ago would have sold their soul to the devil for such a resource.

And I'm bored. I just went downstairs to the bookcase to get a book to read, because I can't think of anything I want to do here. (Except post about it! Oh, how delightfully meta.)

2008/06/09 19:19 Apparently they decided to start importing the Earth's atmosphere from Venus or something over the weekend. I would have appreciated a memo on the subject. Now begins the part of the year when I contemplate moving my computer, desk, bed, &c downstairs to the living room where there is air conditioning.

I think I'm going to stretch my ears up to 5/8". I've got some Kaos "skin" eyelets I'm going to try out as destination jewelry once the teflon tape gets me up to size. Silicone tends to dry out my earlobes during winter months. Hopefully that won't be as much of a problem now.

I've got jury duty this week. Approving of the concept of a trial by one's peers in principle does not mean I look forward to actually participating in the process, however briefly. If I wear very obviously taped-up eyelets, will that decrease or increase my chances of being selected?
